Good food is a must for me on holiday. And by “good” I don’t mean mass-produced or just ok, but varied, high-quality and above all, special. Luckily there’s a
gourmet hotel in Val Gardena that lives up to my sophisticated palate. The
Granvara Relais & Spa Hotel always surprises me with
innovative creations which perfectly combine aesthetics and taste.
Culinary excellence twice each day I love sitting at the table in the morning and taking the time to refuel for the day. The aroma of coffee and pastries as you approach an
elegant new restaurant... simply delightful.
The
Granvara gourmet hotel has everything you need for a great morning: crispy bread rolls, fresh vitamin juice, spiced cold meats and cheeses, fluffy croissants and egg dishes from the front cooking counter.
Panoramic views included!
But nothing beats the
5-course gourmet meals in the evening. I like to be active on holiday, which means I’m hungry in the evenings. So I can hardly wait to open the menu and choose my
perfect dinner. From delicately spiced steak tartar or homemade ravioli to creamy-sweet desserts, everything tastes wonderful – and every plate is a feast for the eyes, too.
The chef de cuisine’s secret: it’s all handmade with love
“How on earth do they do it?” I kept asking myself. And I simply pestered the
chef de cuisine until he told me. With a broad smile, he told me his secret: “For my
team and I, food is
art. You need a certain amount of skill, but your heart also has to be in it.
Creative cuisine starts with the
selection of the ingredients. We place value on
fresh, local produce and produce as much as possible ourselves. If the ingredients are good, the dish will be good!” says this head of an eight person team with a wink. And he’s right of course.
Charming reds and whites
There’s another man in the
Granvara who knows a thing or two about tickling your taste buds: the
sommelier is a true expert. He finds the right wine for every dish and shares
insights into the world of wines showcasing both his humour and his expertise. During my last
holiday in Val Gardena I took part in one of his
wine tastings and soon discovered a fine wine or two. The
tastings take place weekly in the new
Granvara Wine Lounge and are highly recommended for amateur wine enthusiasts.
Whenever I go to a new restaurant, I can’t help but compare the dishes with those in the Granvara. I must admit that not all of them are able to live up to the
sophisticated cuisine there. That’s why I’m really looking forward to my next
gourmet holiday in Val Gardena. Bon appétit!
