holiday in the Dolomites is something you want to remember for ever. Fortunately, this is possible thanks to smartphones and cameras. Special
holiday moments in Val Gardena can be “frozen in time” and kept to
remember for an eternity.
We want to share with you one of the most beautiful
photo hotspots near our
hotel in Selva. Look forward to
5 insider tips for great photos, nostalgic “do you remember...?” photos and guaranteed social media hits!
1. The St Sylvester Chapel in VallungaSmall and pretty, the
St Sylvester Chapel shimmers gold in the sunlight. Mountain peaks and treetops in the background mean it looks tiny, yet it radiates charm and grandeur. Situated just a few minutes by car from Granvara at the entrance to the
Vallunga , the St Sylvester Chapel is a must for
photo enthusiasts on holiday in the Dolomites. It is dedicated to St Sylvester, the patron saint of pets, and inside you can admire
frescos that date back over 300 years. A magical place with true postcard potential!
2. The ruined castle of SelvaHigh above Val Gardena’s meadows and forests, a ruined castle lies enthroned in the midst of the steep
Stevia rock face. Like an eagle’s eyrie, it is nestled amongst the ragged cliffs, hidden and secretive. The stories about its former owner, the
Count of Wolkenstein are even more mysterious. He travelled far and wide as the squire of a knight and one-eyed medieval minstrel, often spending his summer months in the castle.
If you want to photograph the
castle ruins of Selva, you can take a short, steep path into the
Vallunga. Once you arrive, you need only find the right camera angle...
3. The Puez-Odle Nature ParkThe
Puez-Odle Nature Park is a wonderful day trip destination for your
holiday in Val Gardena and can be reached from the Granvara on foot. Spanning over 10,200 hectares and located at 2,500 metres above sea level, it offers some breath-taking views. Natural bridges, mist-shrouded ridges, towering cliffs, majestic forests and much more.
The best way to discover the
unique flora and fauna is on a nature or botanical hike or a guided
wild animal observation tour – don’t forget your camera!
4. The Sai Uedli viewing point An easy hike leads from the centre of Selva to the
Sai Uedli viewing point, which offers spectacular views across the mountain village. Between the treetops, you can look down over the roofs of houses and the alpine countryside all around.
Our tip: visit the viewing point together with a guide from the
Selva Active Programme – all free of charge for our hotel guests!
5. The stone city on the Sasso Lungo
A holiday in the Dolomites is full of unique photo opportunities. And yet, it’s worth looking for a particularly idyllic spot. One of the many photo hotspots is located at the foot of the
Sasso Lungo, and can even be seen from the Granvara.
Rubble which has collected there after a rock fall, creates a
stone city in the mountains. It’s hard to believe that the rock fall took place centuries ago, yet the stone witnesses to the event continue to captivate us with their stillness even today.
Your camera is packed and you’re longing to go searching for photo opportunities in the Dolomites. Perhaps you fancy an activity week or a spa break? You’re sure to find the perfect
offer for an unforgettable
